Return to clear and pain free hearing

If you’re suffering from hearing loss, it might be due to a build up of ear wax. VIDA Clinics gives you a way to access hearing healthcare services that avoids excessive waiting times for treatment. Symptoms of blocked ears can be unpleasant, including ache, dizziness, hearing loss, tinnitus, itching, and potential odour. Microsuction ear wax removal can be particularly beneficial for those who operate loud machinery or work in loud environments, as their hearing can naturally deteriorate over time. With our 3-in-1 Tympa hearing service, your hearing condition can be diagnosed in one 30 minute appointment. From here, one of our medical professionals will create a bespoke treatment plan.

How does Microsuction Earwax Removal work?

Our Tympa system employs a specialist suction device that delivers quick, safe, and painless microsuction to treatment. This allows our clinician to gently remove wax from the ear canal without disturbing other parts of the ear. Microsuction is one of the simplest and least painful ways to get rid of excess earwax. On top of this, it is performed by fully qualified and highly trained VIDA Clinics’ clinicians at one of our state-of-the-art private medical clinics.

What is Tympa?

Tympa is the world's first all-in-one ear and hearing healthcare assessment platform. It allows us to perform multiple services including hearing assessment, wax removal, and examinations in one efficient 30 minute appointment.

The platform allows us to obtain high resolution images and videos of the inner ear, enabling us to make informed, accurate diagnosis and help clients obtain clear visual information about any issues they may be experiencing.

How does Microsuction Earwax Removal work?

The Tympa system includes a specialist suction tax, delivering a quick, safe, and painless microsuction treatment as it gently removes wax from the ear canal.

This is one of the safest, easiest, and least painful ways to get rid of excess earwax. The procedure will be performed by a trained and accredited clinician, in one of our start-of-the-art private medical clinics.

What happens during a hearing assessment?

During a Tympa appointment at VIDA Clinics, a clinician trained in otoscopy (ear examinations) takes charge of assessing your ears. If excessive wax is present during this comfortable process, they will opt to remove it using microsuction. This gentle technique is the gold standard for ear wax removal and is widely considered to be safer than alternative methods such as irrigation.

Once any wax has been removed from the ears, we will then conduct a hearing screening. This is designed to identify whether your hearing has been restored or if you still have a level of hearing loss. If the latter is true, the clinician will refer you to an audiologist for further investigation and specialist treatment if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does hearing health matter?

Good ear and hearing health is important to people of all ages and helps us to get the most out of life. When our ability to hear deteriorates it requires more energy for us to listen and participate in daily life, which can lead to becoming socially isolated as people find it harder to engage with loved ones.

Whilst it is common for certain people to attend routine health check-ups such as eye and teeth procedures on a regular basis, our ears are often left forgotten. This should not be the case. Hearing loss has huge social implications on our quality of life. Hearing loss, if left untreated, can lead to increased risk of falls, social isolation, and is also known to be the single largest modifiable risk factor for the prevention of dementia. Not only that we are often unaware of what we cannot hear, that’s why regular ear and hearing health check-ups are essential.

Are there any after effects from microsuction?

Feelings of fullness and itching in the ear may persist for around an hour after the procedure. This is completely normal and should subside quickly.

Should I use a cotton swab for blocked ears?

No. Inserting cotton swabs, fingers, or any other kind of object into the ears can compress ear wax and make it more difficult to remove, Equally, this isn’t recommended after microsuction as it can disrupt the healing process.
