Add volume and smooth out wrinkles or fine lines with dermal fillers

Dermal filler is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that involves injecting a substance into the skin to add volume, smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, and enhance facial contours.

One of the benefits of dermal fillers is that they provide a more youthful, refreshed appearance without the need for surgery. They are also a great option for those who want to enhance their features without committing to a permanent change.

The most commonly used dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to hydrate and add volume to the skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does dermal filler work?

Dermal filler treatment involves a gel-like substance (natural or synthetic) being injected into target areas of the face with a cannula or needle. The filler plumps the skin from the inside out and works in place of lost fat and proteins to smooth lines and wrinkles and volumise hollow areas.

There are different types of dermal filler substances (some temporary, some longer-lasting, some thinner, some thicker), including calcium hydroxyapatite, polymethylmethacrylate and hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most popular and most commonly used. A naturally-occurring substance produced by the body, hyaluronic acid has huge hydrating abilities.

What areas can be treated by dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are used to treat a variety of areas on the face such as the lips, cheeks and under eye area. They can also be used to treat scars, enhance facial symmetry, areas of the body  and improve the overall appearance of the skin.

It is advised to avoid more strenuous activities such as exercise and exposure to sunlight for a short time following the treatment.

Is dermal filler treatment safe?

Facial fillers are safe when administered by trained and certified professionals. Incorrect techniques or unsterilised needles can cause severe complications that lead to infection, nodule formation, or blood vessel compromise.

It is common to experience mild side effects such as swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness. These effects are usually short-lived and subside within a few days.

Is dermal filler treatment painful?

The level of pain during a dermal filler procedure can vary depending on the individual and the are being treated. Some people may experience no pain at all and others may feel some discomfort.

Before the treatment, your practitioner may apply a numbing cream or local anaesthetic to help minimise any pain or discomfort. In some cases, your practitioner may also use a filler that includes a numbing agent, such as lidocaine, to help reduce discomfort.

Am I a good candidate for dermal filler?

Most people are suitable to have dermal filler treatments if they wish to improve the appearance of their skin or to enhance their facial features . However, there are some factors that may make the treatment unsuitable for certain individuals. For example, individuals who are pregnant or breast feeding, have a history of severe allergic reactions or have certain medical conditions, may not be suitable for the treatment.

Your practitioner will discuss your concerns and medical history with you at your consultation.

What results can I expect from dermal filler?

The effects from dermal filler can be seen immediately however, it will take some time to settle. The length of time that the effects last depend on the type of filler used, the area of treatment, and individual factors such as age, skin type and lifestyle. Most dermal fillers last several months to 2 years before the effects gradually wear off and additional treatments are needed to maintain the results.

Alternative treatments to dermal filler

The Dermal Filler treatment is one option for treating fine lines, wrinkles and folds in the skin etc. Dermal fillers are a cosmetic treatment and as such are designed to treat areas that may have lost their volume and fullness or to add contour to areas that have lost definition etc. There may be alternative cosmetic treatments for tackling these problems which you can discuss with your aesthetic practitioner.
